Meet Samples On Steroids
Q&A with Artist “Samples On Steroids” About Their Debut Release “Free!” and Record Label Foundation.
Gary Intro: Hi guys, nice to meet you here today to celebrate a double debut today! However, you are not very new to the music industry, right?
Hi Gary and all Playlist Djs Fam and followers! Yes, indeed we’ve been producing music under many nicknames like The Rituals (Defected, Snatch Records!, Glasgow Underground and Oceantrax) and Boysinadisco to name a few over the last years. We also started the Bewild Records – focused on Melodic House, Techno and Progressive House back in 2016 while the latest Recording Label – Low Hanging Music – we launched a few months ago is focused on Tech, Deep and Bass House. We like to keep ourselves pretty busy and open to a wide musical spectrum, we would say.
Gary: so, what drove you to launch a new artist brand and recording label focused on Jackin House, Disco and French Touch similar genres?
We started djing during the nineties and got influenced by producers like Daft Punk, Modjo, Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe, Dimitri From Paris, Stardust, etc. We met a few years ago when we decided to start The Rituals and the Bewild Records Projects, however we felt like there was something more that we were missing. The 25 years celebration of Daft Punk’s Homework last February was definitely our “Call”. We are avid vinyl collectors and thousands of funky, soul and disco records. Hence, we said: if not now, then when? It also happened to meet Luca Chiarlitti – a promising local Italian producer – a few months ago who was sharing our devotion to the same music and we brought him into this journey.
Gary: Samples on Steroids: where did inspire you with the brand?
That was part of the creative process. The overall idea was to use saturated drum samples and raw low frequencies to blend chopped samples together. The nineties were also the era of gym, sculpted muscles, oiled bodies and coloured and ripped sportswear. We wanted to bring all these vibrations and visuals together with a modern touch into the days we are living. Therefore, adding Samples to Steroids was part of the equation and we found it inspiring. Hope you like it!
Gary: Have you got any positive feedback so far?
We shared our forthcoming 6 releases planned from now to September to established Djs in the last few weeks. We are glad to have received positive comments so far top Djs and producers like Black Legend (who played the forthcoming Luca Chiarlitti “Bring It On” on his The Legendary Radio Show #203, Cristiano Rinaldi (Memoryman aka Uovo from Pastaboys), Nico De Ceglia (BBC Radio 1), Rogue D (Defected, Crosstown Rebels, Undr The Radr) just to name a few. This went pretty above our expectations and we are very excited to see more Djs playing our music.
Gary: How can people contact you and send demos?
Anyone with productions focused on similar styles are free to send a demo to [email protected] and we’ll listen to everything that comes our way.
