As Playlist DJ’s grows from a hobby project to a business, we’ve been exploring ways of adding value to our followers, especially by helping DJ’s, Producers and Labels gain more exposure. Granted, we’ve got a modest but growing audience of 40,000 across the main socials but this is growing and we’re getting some really good engagement at the moment too, especially with our mash up vides which are really popular especially on Instagram and TikTok.
For the past few months we’ve also been working with Darren S, the head honcho at Soul Room Records Music, which is a label based not too far away from Playlist DJ’s here in Central Scotland.
We’ve been working on some videos to help gain expsoure to some of his producer clients. Videos like this on TikTok by Ottis Blake.
To thank Darren and the team at Soul Room for their support we thought we would do a focus piece on them so you can learn more about the label and their plans for the future. If this is a success, we will roll it out further and perhaps add it as an option to our shout out service.
So, let’s meet Darren S at Soul Room…
What tune got you into dance / housemusic initially? – 808 State – ‘In Yer Face‘ was where it all began for me and the track that kickstarted my passion and love affair with dance music and my addiction to vinyl!!!
Tell us about the current tracks your excited to be releasing on Soul Room. – Very excited to be releasing a remix EP of Msolnusic ‘House is Everything’ including a remix from the house ledgend Scott Diaz. This has been in the pipeline for the last few months and everything is almost ready for the release. Another forthcoming release will be from another ledgend that i’ve been following for decades, Tony Lionni who will be on remix duties and what a remix it is. We are in the planning stages of the release date but will keep you posted on this one.
What do you think of the current state of the electronic music industry? The indusrty has changed so much in a very short period of time, especially the streamng services. It’s very difficut to make a living just from streaming unless you have a lot of money to promote it. These platfroms have only one goal in mind and it’s to make money for themselves and their shareholders whilst giving their customers as much music as they want for a small subscription. Artistst and labels are left scraping the bottom of the barel making less than a penny per stream, it’s ridiculous and completely unfair and unbalanced. This needs to change very soon to help indie artists and lables trying to creat a viable business and career from their music. Hopefully it will, very soon.
What are the plans for the future for Soulroom Records? Hopefully ALL restrictions regarding nightclubs and Bar’s in Scotland will be lifted completely as we hope to have gigs in place for 2022 and beyond to promote our artists and the label brand. We are accepting and already planning our releases for 2022 and will be investing in a financial marketing stratagy which will be in place for each release to promote across as many streaming platforms as possible, with the help of our friends at Playlistdj’s of course.
